Carolina Theatre Celebrates Charlotte Pride Weekend with Gina Gershon, Parade Viewing Party and Cult Classic Screenings
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Carolina Theatre at Belk Place, in partnership with The Plus Collective, will celebrate Charlotte Pride Weekend with two days of special programming honoring LGBTQ+ culture, film and community, featuring actress and author Gina Gershon, a Charlotte Pride Parade Viewing Party, live entertainment and screenings of the cult classics Bound and Showgirls on Aug. 15-16.
The weekend begins Saturday, Aug. 15, with Gina Gershon Live at the Carolina, an intimate conversation with the acclaimed actress discussing her new book, Alphapussy, moderated by Charlotte entrepreneur and personality Dr. Davita Galloway and followed by a screening of the groundbreaking 1996 film Bound, starring Gershon and Jennifer Tilly. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the conversation beginning at 7 p.m. The screening will begin at approximately 8:15 p.m.
On Sunday, Aug. 16, the Carolina Theatre will host the Charlotte Pride Parade Viewing Party, featuring musical entertainment by DJ Fannie Mae, along with a special vendor market, curated by The Mimosa Way, showcasing Black- and LGBTQ-owned businesses in celebration of both Charlotte Pride and National Black Business Month. The afternoon concludes with a screening of the beloved cult classic Showgirls, which will include pre- and post-show discussion moderated by Mae. Doors open at noon, festivities begin at 1 p.m., and the film starts at 5 p.m.

Best known for iconic roles in films including Bound, Showgirls and Face/Off, Gershon has enjoyed a decades-long career spanning film, television and theater. Her new book, Alphapussy, offers readers an unfiltered collection of stories and observations drawn from her life and career. Pairing her live appearance with a screening of Bound gives audiences a unique opportunity to revisit one of the most influential LGBTQ+ films of the 1990s alongside one of its stars.
The Charlotte Pride Parade Viewing Party expands the celebration beyond the parade route with music, community gathering spaces and a curated marketplace highlighting local Black- and LGBTQ-owned businesses. Guests can enjoy the festivities throughout the afternoon before closing out the day with a screening of Showgirls, the camp classic that has become a beloved staple of LGBTQ+ pop culture.
Tickets for Gina Gershon Live at the Carolina and the Bound screening, as well as admission to the Charlotte Pride Parade Watch Party and Showgirls screening, will be available for presale to select groups on July 22 and will open to the public on July 24 at www.thecarolina.com.
