CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The von Trapps are coming back.

Sixty years ago this year, nearly 400,000 people came to the Carolina Theatre to see
The Sound of Music during a record-breaking 79-week run. That number was larger
than the actual population of Charlotte at that time. For more than a year, the Carolina
Theatre showed the Julie Andrews musical on its screen, and every week, hundreds
and thousands of people returned to Uptown to watch it.

Now, for one day this June, we’re bringing it back.
To celebrate the 60 th anniversary of the musical, the Carolina Theatre will offer two
showings of The Sound of Music on June 28 – a matinee of the movie at 2 p.m. and a
sing-along version of the musical at 7 p.m.

“As the community’s theatre, we listen to our audiences when they tell us what they
want to see,” Sean Seifert, the Carolina Theatre’s executive director, said.
“Overwhelmingly since day one, people have asked us to bring back this movie. We’re
ecstatic to bring it back to our theatre so many years later.”

“This movie will forever be a large part of our history,” Seifert said. “We’re thrilled for its
encore 60 years later.”

Tickets start at only $10 and can be purchased online at TheCarolina.com.
